About
I have a studio practice rooted in painting and drawing, often focused on portraits of female subjects. My practice draws from my experience being raised as a woman in a working class household, and I have obtained a visual language to address concerns of sexism, poverty, generation z and the female experience.
My work is authentic and realistic. There are no exaggerated emotions or dramatised storytelling. I work primarily on square canvas and paper to encourage the feeling of my pieces being a snapshot in time; a straight to the point image of what a young person is experiencing at that point in their life.
Each piece holds a sense of unique vulnerability as every subject is following their own path, pondering over their own concerns and adjusting as best as they can to each different challenge that they face moving into adulthood. No sugar-coating and no overemphasising, my work is an honest, semi-realistic take on the experience of growing up in Generation Z. Every line and mark is a young persons personal experience and struggles as they grow up, and in a world where it is easy to feel incredibly small, I think it’s very important to give them that voice.
